VolkerStevin were instructed by Conwy County Borough Council to undertake a major coastal defence project in North Wales at Colwyn Bay, delivered over two separate phases. Phase 1 incorporated the demolition of the existing 100 year old promenade and the construction of a new raised promenade and sea defence wall. Concast were commissioned by VolkerStevin to provide the sea defence wall in Precast. We manufactured complex bespoke steel moulds to create the individual units required to form the serpentine wall, with both concave and convex curves in plan, while the section profile of each unit had a recurved front face to form the wave return surface. A concrete mix incorporating GGBS was deigned by Concast in order to further enhance the durability and longevity of the wave return barriers. The serpentine wall spans 400m requiring the manufacture of 110 separate Precast sections. Concast have successfully completed other marine projects with VolkerStevin including Felixstowe Port and Southampton Port.
