Concast’s ongoing relationship with VolkerStevin continues to strengthen with the successful completion of the extension of the Port of Felixstowe, the UK’s largest container port. VSBW Joint Venture, a consortium of VolkerStevin and Boskalis Westminster, were appointed by Hutchison Ports (UK) to complete the extension of Berth 9 by an additional 190m. Concast supplied 74 large Precast fender and bollard units which were installed to create the new quay wall. We manufactured substantial and complex bespoke steel moulds for each unit type and all units were manufactured utilising Zemdrain® CPF formwork liners which were attached to the formwork face facilitating the removal of excess air and water from the formwork / concrete interface during the concreting process thus resulting in a high quality concrete surface with significantly increased durability. A concrete mix incorporating GGBS was deigned by Concast in order to further enhance durability and longevity. Units manufactured were substantial with the Fender units weighing approximately 36T. Concast have worked with VolkerStevin on other large scale projects including Southampton Port and Colwyn Bay.
