Stena Line invested £200m in a new ferry port facility at Loch Ryan, Scotland. Main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey oversaw the construction of the new jetty and terminal building. Concast provided 28 substantial fender beams to be incorporated within the jetty structure. Each fender unit weighed 50T, incorporated 7T of tied steel and spanning 18m. With our factory lifting capacity of 126T and our 280T crawler crane on-site, Concast made light work of these substantial units. Each unit comprised a reinforced concrete beam with a variety of cores, cast in items and projecting steel to connect with the in-situ concrete structure cast on-site. A specific concrete mix was developed by Concast for the manufacturing process, ensuring the high strength concrete was resistant to the salt water environment while also ensuring an attractive finish. Complex moulds were manufactured in-house by Concast’s fabrication team, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and incorporating some flexibility to make alterations between the various beams as required.
